Empowering Women and Nurturing Communities: The Inspiring Work of Al Muslimaath Organization in Sri Lanka

Founded in 1990, Al Muslimaath is a beacon of hope and compassion in Sri Lanka, pioneering the country’s first entirely women-run community-based non-profit organization. With a steadfast commitment to promoting education for all children and youth while building a social safety net for those experiencing poverty, Al Muslimaath has left an indelible mark on the island nation. The One Ummah Foundation has been a proud partner of Al Muslimaath for more than 30 years.



Al Muslimaath's mission transcends geographical boundaries, serving communities from North to South and East to West. Every individual and family touched by their programs is treated with dignity, respect, and empathy, regardless of religion, ethnicity, race, or other social identifier. At the heart of their approach lies a deep emphasis on empathy, recognizing the importance of understanding and addressing the unique needs of each individual and family they serve.

Over the past 33 years, Al Muslimaath has forged meaningful partnerships with over 58 organizations, uniting in a common purpose to uplift and empower marginalized communities. Through their unwavering dedication, they have educated over 5,000 of Sri Lanka’s most vulnerable children and youth, operating four distinctive primary education and technical schools nationwide.



With a portfolio of over 80 impactful projects, Al Muslimaath has touched the lives of more than 50,000 persons, spanning every social sector of society from infancy to old age. Their commitment to quality and excellence is evident in their partnerships with local and foreign collaborators, ensuring the efficacy and sustainability of their programs.

At the core of Al Muslimaath’s mission is the belief that education and empowerment are the keys to breaking the cycles of poverty and helplessness. By prioritizing basic and values-based education, they strive to equip women and families with the knowledge and skills to achieve their dreams and aspirations.
