Rebuilding Lives Through Free Cleft Surgeries

Every smile tells a story. But for many children and adults born with cleft lip or palate, that story begins with the struggle difficulty eating, speaking, and facing the world with confidence. In communities where medical care is a luxury, a condition that should be treatable often goes unaddressed, leaving countless lives shadowed by silence, pain, and stigma.
But there is hope.
And that hope is taking shape one life at a time.
A Condition That Goes Beyond Appearance
A cleft lip or palate is a congenital condition, a gap in the lip or the roof of the mouth that happens when facial tissues don’t fuse properly during early development in the womb. These gaps aren’t just cosmetic; they can affect a child’s ability to feed, speak, and even breathe comfortably. Children with untreated clefts often face bullying, social isolation, and lifelong emotional challenges.
For families living on limited incomes, the cost of corrective surgery—though modest by medical standards—is simply out of reach. That’s where compassion must step in.
CLAPP: Turning “Unable” into “Enabled”
Founded in 2003, the Cleft Lip & Palate Association of Pakistan (CLAPP) is dedicated to providing free cleft surgeries for patients who would otherwise never have access to treatment. Since its inception, CLAPP has worked tirelessly to transform lives across Pakistan, offering surgical care that not only corrects a physical deformity but also opens doors to speech, education, confidence, and belonging. clapp.org.pk
With the support of generous donors, thousands have received care that truly changes their lives forever turning what once was a barrier into a bright new beginning.
Partnering for Greater Impact: One Ummah Foundation
The One Ummah Foundation has taken this mission to heart, partnering with CLAPP to support these life-changing surgeries on a larger scale. Through their joint efforts, donors around the world are helping fund procedures that restore not just a smile but dignity, confidence, and hope.
Each funded surgery, costing roughly $400, does more than close a gap in tissue. It:
- Restores clear speech
- Rebuilds confidence
- Erases years of social stigma
- Gives individuals the freedom to live life fully
That’s the power of compassion turned into action.
Every Age, Every Story Matters
This work doesn’t target only children. Teenagers who have faced years of exclusion, adults who have hidden their smiles for decades every person deserves a chance to experience life without barriers. With each surgery, CLAPP and One Ummah are reminding the world that a smile isn’t just an expression it’s a right.
